Hello,

Nervemax contains pregabalin which is sometimes used to treat migraine headaches (to reduce the intensity of symptoms and the frequency).

It is generally tolerated well by patients but in some, it may cause suicidal thoughts.

It is important to recognize this and let your doctor know soon if these thoughts happen.

Please don't stop pregabalin abruptly as it may cause withdrawal symptoms like problems with sleep, worse headaches, nausea, diarrhoea, etc.

A very rare but important possible side effect is angioedema which is similar to sever allergic reaction and causes swelling of lips and eyes and shortness of breath-

if this happens please stop pregabalin and see your doctor immediately.

Weight gain can happen as well and changes in the complete blood count and renal function but the last two are very rare.

Topirol also can increase risk for suicidal thoughts so you need to let your doctor know if this happens, may make you a bit sleepy and feel slow in concentration, thinking, memory, etc.

Rarely it may cause kidney problems, acidosis and increased temperature (fever).

To conclude: both medications can be used to prevent migraine episodes and are generally tolerated by patients but you need to let your doctor know immediately if any of the above symptoms develop or any complaints.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
